DIGITAL PHOTO ORGANIZATION
YOUR PHOTOS ARE EVERYWHERE.
THEY DON'T HAVE TO STAY THAT WAY.
Phones. Old phones. Computers. Hard drives. Cloud accounts. Memory cards. Years of photographs tucked into folders you haven't opened in years.
I help families bring scattered digital photo collections together, remove unnecessary clutter, create an organization system that makes sense, and build a safer archive that can actually be found, enjoyed, and passed down.
PHOTOGRAPHS ARE ONLY USEFUL IF YOU CAN FIND THEM
A digital photo collection can grow for years without ever becoming an archive. Photographs accumulate across phones, computers, hard drives, cloud libraries, and old devices, often without a consistent system for organizing or preserving them.
I help bring those scattered collections together and create order around them—consolidating files, reducing unnecessary duplication, establishing a clear organizational structure, and creating a plan for long-term storage and backup.
The result is a photo library that is easier to navigate, understand, protect, and eventually pass on.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN EVERY DIGITAL PHOTO ORGANIZING PROJECT
-
Every project begins with an assessment of your existing photo collection. We identify where it lives, how it is currently organized, the approximate size of the collection, and any immediate concerns or priorities.
-
We identify the places your photographs are currently stored and bring the relevant files together into a more intentional, manageable collection.
-
Duplicate files and unnecessary clutter are identified and reduced according to the needs of your collection, without indiscriminately deleting photographs simply to make the library smaller.
-
Your photographs are organized using a consistent structure designed to make the collection easier to navigate and understand.
-
Existing dates, names, locations, and other useful information are preserved wherever possible so that organization doesn't come at the expense of the history attached to the photographs.
-
Every project includes recommendations for protecting the finished collection with appropriate backups and reducing reliance on a single device, drive, or account.
-
You'll receive a clear explanation of how your collection is organized and how to maintain it going forward.
THE PROCESS
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Please don't feel like you need to clean up your collection before I see it. Part of my job is figuring out what you have, where it lives, and what needs attention.
-
That's common. Your photographs may be spread across phones, computers, external hard drives, memory cards, cloud accounts, and older devices. Identifying where everything lives is part of the initial assessment.
-
Yes. I can help organize Apple Photos libraries, including consolidation, duplicates, albums, people, dates, and the overall structure of the collection. We can also look at how iCloud fits into your storage and backup system.
-
Nothing is indiscriminately deleted. Duplicate and clutter review is handled according to an agreed-upon plan, and we'll establish how you want uncertain items handled before that work begins.
-
Family photographs are personal, and your collection is treated accordingly. Access is limited to what is necessary for the project, and we'll discuss how files, devices, accounts, and any temporary working copies will be handled before work begins.
-
Yes. In fact, that's often the reason someone needs help. A project can include photographs from multiple computers, phones, drives, cloud libraries, and other storage locations.
-
Those can become part of a larger Family Archiving project or be handled separately through my Print & Physical Archives and Digitization & Media Preservation services. We can determine the best order for tackling the different parts of your collection.
-
Every organizing project includes a backup strategy for the finished collection. The exact setup will depend on the size of your archive, the technology you use, and how you want to access your photographs.
-
It depends on the size and complexity of the collection. A single photo library may require considerably less time than decades of photographs spread across multiple devices and storage locations. After the initial assessment, I'll be able to give you a clearer project scope and timeline.
EVERY COLLECTION IS DIFFERENT
A photo library with 8,000 images on one phone is a very different project from twenty years of photographs spread across phones, cloud accounts, old laptops, and external drives.
Digital photo organizing projects are scoped individually based on the size and condition of the collection, where the files are currently stored, and the amount of organization and preservation work needed.
After an initial consultation and collection assessment, I'll recommend a scope of work based on what I find. You’ll know what the project involves before any organizing begins.
READY TO MAKE SENSE OF YOUR PHOTO COLLECTION?
You don't need to organize anything before reaching out. Bring the hard drives, the overflowing photo library, the old computers, or simply the knowledge that your photographs are scattered somewhere.
We'll start by figuring out what you have.
